Which exchange exports we read, how to download each one step by step, what we take from the file and the formats covered, plus a Universal CSV for the rest.

Don’t see your exchange?
Two routes. For ordinary buys, sells, swaps, transfers and rewards from any platform, our Universal CSV template gets the transactions into the calculator in a few minutes. For DeFi, NFTs, margin trading or dozens of wallets, a tool built for that breadth is the honest recommendation.
Use the Universal CSV template
One row per transaction, a fixed set of headings and a Type column that says how HMRC treats each row. Works for closed exchanges, hardware wallets, gifts and opening balances too.
Complex history? See Koinly
If your years include DeFi lending or liquidity pools, NFTs, margin or futures, thousands of transactions or many wallets that need syncing, our calculator will flag those rows and leave them out. Koinly handles that breadth and produces a UK report; our Koinly review explains the trade-offs.

Next on our list: Bitstamp, Gemini, Uphold, Bitpanda, KuCoin, Bybit, OKX, Ledger Live, MetaMask / Etherscan address exports. Until a parser lands, use the Universal CSV for those, and send us an anonymised export — real files are how new formats get added.
Under the bonnet
How do we read your files?
Recognised by header signature
Each export layout is matched exactly. A newer or unknown layout is refused with a “send it to us” message rather than misread.
Read in your browser
Your files are parsed on your device and never uploaded. Only a coin and a date are sent to our price service when a pound value is missing.
UK dates and UK rules
Every timestamp is converted to a UK calendar day before HMRC’s same-day, 30-day and section 104 pool rules are applied.
Exchange transaction reports are not tax calculations and do not track pooled costs — that is the calculator’s job. Our methodology explains exactly how each rule is applied.
